The 2020 Silbiger Concert which was canceled in the early days of the Pandemic has at long last been rescheduled. Schola Cantorum of Boston under the direction of Fred Jodry will present their program of English renaissance music for voices and viols November 12 in Boston and November 14 in Providence.
The Viola da Gamba Society-New England has awarded the 2020-2021 Gian Lyman Silbiger Grant to Mary Jodice and Carol Lewis for a concert entitled “Cries and Ballads of London” to be held at St. Andrew’s Church in Marblehead, MA. at 7:00pm on June 20, 2021.
Applications are now open for the 2021-2022 Silbiger Grant. Due to the ongoing pandemic there will be a few changes for this year to increase applicants’s flexibility.
On Saturday May 8, 2021 from 3:00-4:30, the VdGS-NE presents its next special topics workshop entitled: “What Strikes the Clock.” The guest presenters are Ros Morley and Larry Lipnik.
There are a number of different Low Latency audio platforms that gamba players are using to make music together when they can’t go to other people’s houses. The three most popular are called Soundjack, Jamulus and JamKazam.
On Saturday April 17, 2021 from 3:00-4:30, the VdGS-NE presents its next special topics workshop entitled: “Beginner tablature for the Viol.” The guest presenter is John Mark Rozendaal
On Sunday March 21, 2021 from 3:00-4:30, the VdGS-NE presents its next special topics workshop entitled: “Exploring fingering possibilities on the treble viol.” The guest presenter is Catharina Meints: professor emerita of cello and viola da gamba at Oberlin.
On Saturday February 27, from 3:00-4:30PM, the VdGS-NE will present the next in our series of online special topic workshops: a presentation by Tina Chancey entitled “Make your viol sing.”
On January 23, from 3:00-4:30PM, the VdGS-NE will present the next in our series of online special topic workshops: a special presentation by Mary Springfels on the canons in Machaut’s Lai de la fontaine.
