VdGS-NE Spring Workshop 2020 CANCELLED

The VdGS-NE spring workshop led by Parthenia has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

We plan on offering this workshop again in spring of 2021. Read on for the description of what was to be offered.

The members of Parthenia (Lisa Terry, Beverly Au, Rosamund Morley, and Larry Lipnik) will lead workshop attendees  through a wide variety of repertoire associated with Renaissance Venice. Our workshop will explore some of the riches of this music written, published or perhaps just played in Venice from the early 16th century through the first part of the 17th century, from the Frottolists to the mannerist Madrigalists, via the music of the wonderful composers whose work for the Doges in the basilica of San Marco is the hallmark of the Venetian style that was exported throughout Europe. In addition to music published by Petrucci, the ricercare of Musica Nova, works by composers such Willaert, Da Rore, Monteverdi the Gabrielis and more, we will also consider the textless madrigals by Pallavicino, Marenzio and other Italians preserved in manuscripts at Christ Church, Oxford.

As always, VdGS-NE welcomes beginners at its workshops.  For details see the registration pages. Coaches will be Hannah Davidson and James Perretta.

The music directors will be Rosamund Morley and Larry Lipnik and the local coordinators will Lise Foss and Roger Cleghorn.
