Virtual Workshop Sign-up October 2022
The VdGS-NE is kicking off its new season of special topics workshops. We welcome guest presenter Philip Serna to lead a workshop called “Size Matt’reth Not: Consorts of Orlando Gibbons” This workshop will take place on Sunday October 23, at 4:00PM EDT (note the different start time from last Spring).
The consorts à3 & à4 by Orlando Gibbons (bap.1583-1625) are among the most sublime and sometimes unusual writing for viol consort, making them time honored favorites among gamba players. In a rousing start to our 2022-23 Special Topics online, Dr. Phillip Serna will introduce us to a cross-section of these wonderful works, including at least one for the ‘Great Dooble Base’. Participants will play along with recordings and will have the chance to try different lines if you wish (and if your dooble bass needs some love, now’s your chance!).
For Intermediate and Advanced players; though auditors of all levels are welcome!

The fee for the workshop is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. If you indicate on the signup form that you would like to join the society, your first year’s membership will be free! If this poses a challenge for you, contact our treasurer. The registration deadline is October 20, 2022.
Zoom links and musical examples will be emailed to participants upon successful registration. The video of the class will be available for 30 days after the fact. If the class has already occurred, you can inquire here to gain access to the video.
