We are happy to announce that this year’s Gian Lyman Silbiger grant has been awarded to Jubilate Chamber Choir (Mary Jodice, director) to support a special West Gallery Evensong service. The event takes place April 11, 2027 in Newburyport, MA. Mary and viol coordinator Marie Ridolfo share:

“The program will celebrate St. Paul’s 315-year history by exploring a style of church music that would have been familiar during the parish’s early years. West Gallery music was an English church tradition in which choirs were accompanied not by an organ, but by a small “gallery band” of instruments. Jubilate Chamber Choir, directed by Mary Jodice, will be joined by a consort of viols featuring Carol Lewis, Sarah Mead, Marie Ridolfo, and Emily Walhout, bringing the distinctive sound of viols into a historic worship space and introducing this music—and the viol itself—to new listeners. “
