Viol play day — Sunday Feb 26
Students and recent graduates are invited to a musical gathering at Harvard University for Boston area viol players on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 6:30 PM, led by David H. Miller. The event is sponsored by the Viola da Gamba Society — New England with no charge to participants. Please register ahead of time so we can plan appropriately.
We will gather at 6:30, and play from 7-9, at the Harvard Music Building. Enter through the Paine Hall entrance and look for Room 9. Pitch will be A=440—please tune early and often! Selections for this playing session will include dance pieces, sacred works and fantasias – so expect anything! All parts will be doubled, and we hope to send you some music in advance so you can practice, if you like.
David studied viol with Jane Hershey through the Longy Community Program as a Harvard undergrad. He has a PhD from Cornell, and currently teaches viol and double bass at the University of California, Berkeley. David returns from California for concerts with Seven Times Salt and other musical activities several times a year. We are delighted to have him here for this event.
Thanks to the Harvard Music Department and Kate van Orden for hosting this event. We hope we can make gatherings like this a regular occurrence for our community in the future. We especially encourage viol players from area universities and colleges to attend! Come and join us.
