VdGS-NE March Workshop: Treble Fingering with Catharina Meints
On Sunday March 21, 2021 from 3:00-4:30, the VdGS-NE presents its next special topics workshop entitled: “Exploring fingering possibilities on the treble viol.” The guest presenter is Catharina Meints: professor emerita of cello and viola da gamba at Oberlin.
Using a number of exercises to compare “bass” style and “diatonic” style fingerings, Cathy will discuss the merits of both, and propose a hybrid style.
Several pieces of standard consort literature will be discussed with respect to fingering options. Participants will receive four pages of standard consort music with the suggested fingerings.
Note: This workshop is for trebles only, but should be interesting for players at many levels.
