Participants joined coaches Loren Ludwig, John Mark Rozendaal, Jane Hershey, and Zoe Weiss to explore some wonderful consort music by a community of London-based composers. Though not as well known today as Jenkins or Lawes, this early modern “Rat Pack” synthesized the inherited musical language of Elizabethan polyphony with the sounds of the Italian madrigal to create a new idiom of expressive andengaging consort music.

The workshop was open to all viol players including beginners. In addition, pre-formed consorts were invited to prepare music of their choice for the workshop focusing on the composers listed above.
