Attendees
will have the
opportunity to enjoy the common 16th and 17th century practice of
playing vocal music as instrumental ensemble or combined with voices.
The repertory will include Old World Spanish polyphony, such as the
music of Tomás Luis de Victoria Cristobal de Morales and
Juan
Vasquez. New World polyphony’s will include music from South
American Archives such as Puebla, Oaxaca, Sucre and will include
composers Juan Gutierrez de Padilla, Juan de Araujo, and Gaspar
Fernandez.
In addition, the workshop will be spiced up with polyphonic
arrangements of popular and folkloric Latin-American music, especially
from Venezuela, Argentina and Colombia.
Coaches will include Colombian singer Camila Parias, Sarah Mead, and
Janet Haas. There will be a short lecture-demonstration to illustrate
the spirit of the workshop. Also, as always, there will be a class for
beginners if there is enough interest.
Get out your rhythmic bow, your dancing fingers for tangos, joropos,
and salsa, to enjoy the lively text and music of the Ibero-America.
