Parthenia
explores the exuberant 16th-century French repertoire, much of which
was inspired by the greatest poet of the age, Pierre de
Ronsard.
The workshop
will offer classes
on chansons and airs de cour by Claude le Jeune, Andre Pevernage,
Pierre Bonnet, Guillaume Costeley and Claude Goudimel; fantasias by Le
Jeune and Eustache du Caurroy; ricercare from Musique de joye; early
French Renaissance dances collected by Michael Praetorius; and
instrumental diminutions and ornamented chansons. A
beginners’
class will be offered if there is enough interest.
The members of Parthenia, Beverly Au, Larry Lipnik, Ros Morley, and
Lisa Terry, along with local New England faculty, bring to their
teaching virtuosity, passion and rich experience. In a special
after-workshop concert, Parthenia will perform "Love Songs in the Age
of Ronsard,” with tenor Jason McStoots and Duo Maresienne, at
7:30 pm at Hancock United Church of Christ.
Boulder Early Music Shop, represented by Anthony Allen, will be present
at the workshop. He will have a variety of sizes of viols and printed
music. If you have a request for a specific model of viol, or any other
instrument, please contact Anthony Allen in advance at 207-484-2084.
