Update on the Powers Viol
Collection
In the past year, Powers Music School received a generous
gift from the estate of Ellen Powers earmarked for the Viol Maintenance
Fund. This bequest has allowed for the purchase of two
much-needed hard cases, and also an infusion of lower strings to fill
out the string supply. The Powers Viol Collection, begun
during Ellen's directorship in the 1970's and 80's, serves not only
Powers students, but the wider viol playing community of New England.
Powers continues to maintain rental fees as low as possible
to increase access for new players, and waives the rental fees entirely
for children who study viol at the school.
Powers welcomes further donation of viols, and also of hard cases in
good condition. Donations to the VIol Maintenance Fund are
also needed to continue this remarkable collection, which has benefited
so many players who have few other options for finding viols on which
to learn to play.
Rental rates are as follows:
Short-term: $90 for up to 3 months at any time of year
Regular rates: Per Semester(Sept.-Jan., Jan.-May): $175.00; Per Year: $325.00;
